SEA SALT

Sea salt has a long history in wound care, utilized by ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Greeks for its believed antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. The principle is that salt draws out moisture and bacteria from cells through osmosis, helping to cleanse and disinfect wounds. This practice continues today in modern wound care, where salt-based solutions like saline irrigation are used to clean wounds and help with healing. 

The best way to care for your piercing is to keep a regular regimen of warm sea salt soaks. Sea salt soaks gently flush out the piercing, help to draw out discharge, stimulate blood circulation, and soothe irritations. We suggest soaking your piercing for 10 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day for the entire duration of your healing time.

The idea behind sea salt soaks is simple — promoting healing by using a natural and familiar care regimen without the use of harsh products that can dry out and irritate the wound. The warmth of the water and the act of soaking promotes blood flow to the wound and cleans the piercing inside and out, without the need of any additional cleaning steps.

 

SALINE MIST

A sterile saline mist is your travel friendly companion to regular warm sea salt soaks. Using a saline mist does not replace the benefits of soaking your piercing, however it is effective in keeping your piercing clean in between. For travel, post workout, or irritation, incorporating a saline mist into your aftercare routine will help keep the surface of your piercing and jewelry fresh and free of crusty matter while you’re healing.

EMU OIL

Emu Oil is a natural emollient product that moisturizes, soothes and nourishes your piercing. Although emu oil is safe for use on puncture wounds, we find it best applied to piercings out of their initial healing phase, when dryness can sometimes cause discomfort. For many clients, emu oil is a rescue product for irritations, and provide relief after accidental bumps and snags.

Unlike many other emu oil products, Desert Palms Emu Oil is fully refined and is suitable for pharmaceutical usage. Even as an oil, it has been proven that emu oil does not clog the pores, therefore allowing the skin to breathe during the healing process, unlike most commercially made products that are petroleum based. Studies have shown that emu oil penetrates through all layers of the skin and is rich in nutrients (essential fatty acids) that feed the skin to aid in new cell development that can help hasten the healing process. Emu oil  is a natural emollient keeping the skin surrounding your piercing moist and pliable.
